Morning, does anyone have any tips/ideas on getting rid of mouth ulcers.
I keep on getting them, if it was one at a time it wouldn't be so bad, but i have 5 at the moment and they last 7 to 10 days.
Working through one at a time, i have changed tooth brush, toothpaste, and now on alchol free mouth wash. Bonjela, absol etc are only giving a temp relief and it wears off very quickly. Extra zinc helped a few years ago but not now, and also vit b is said to help but hasnt touched them. Blood counts are consistant and although i took my metho just before the test so wrecked that one! Any one have any ideas, i am now willing to try anything! marie

I have 2 suggestions. Try hot salt water rinsed around the mouth a few times and then spat out three times a day. This works for me. Another family member swears by rubbing marmite directly onto the ulcers.

Hi Marie

Have you spoken to your Dentist? They may be able to help.

Also, one of the side effects of MTX can be mouth ulcers. Mention it to your rheummy on your next visit xxx

The mouth ulcers are a common problem with MTX. Are you on that?

I get them and my doctor game me corsydyl mouth wash which is good. I mentioned it to my rheumy and she reduced my dose of MTX down from 20mg to 15mg per week and they are not so bad now.

I tried Corsodyl (not sure of exact spelling) and it really stained my teeth. My hygienist said this was a common side effect of prolonged use. However everyone is different and you might not get this so it might be worth a try. I had 3 painful ulcers 2 weeks ago and they disappeared within 4 days using the hot salt water. Good luck with your efforts. Naomi X

morning,
thanks all,i'm on mtx and had the old one but at the moment there are 6 lurking. tryed the salt water, mouth wash, alchol based and alchol free, been to the dentist, changed toothbrush and tooth paste brand, but not at the same time. havent tried marmite though, apart from on toast, sounds good.
i am now going to start trying, wine, vodka and brandy separatly an together!
my rhemy is not that good, see him one every 9 months and get is all steady and level, review in 9 months! gp was helpful yesterday, and said not to take mtx this week, and see. seeing the practice nurse tomorrow, and see what she suggests. thanks marie x
